I feel like the drive with Christi, Melissa, and Lyza was as fun as the actual time in San Antonio. Lyza found a sweet deal at the Embassy Suites right on the river walk, and we ate good food, played games, shopped, and visited. These ladies are great examples to me, I don't hear them say negative things about others and they are always pointing out the good. Besides being positive and uplifting, they have great taste in music ;) I thought I was done with posting giant pregnancy pictures, but I had to document the fun weekend, swollen and all. Only 6 more weeks to go as of today!

Girl's Trip
I am so lucky to have great friends here in Texas. Last weekend a few of us took much needed, sort of spur of the moment, girls trip to San Antonio. It was nice to get to know these lovely ladies better and it was especially nice to get out before Lyza and I have these babes.... that was kind of the point for me! I've only left Capri overnight when I came house hunting here in Texas by myself and Landon and Capri stayed in Utah. We still don't leave her very often with a babysitter. Capri is 19 months, I hope it's not that long before I get away again! Even though Capri cried a little, it was good for both of us and the welcome home was so sweet! Thanks Landon for being such a great Dad and husband.

A Birth Story
Happy Birthday Sweet Capri
March 12, 201210:39am7lbs 14 oz19 inches long
March 10th came and went without a sign of Capri. The tiny clothes in her drawer were folded and rearranged several times the next two days. I was anxious to meet her, but almost glad for the extra time to let the fact that I was about to become a mother sink in. My Doctor convinced that being induced Monday the 12th would be the best thing if she didn’t come on her due date. I was super hesitant about being induced because I wanted her to come when she was ready, I wouldn’t want to be forced into this world if I wasn’t ready either. I felt a little selfish by choosing to be induced. My reasons were that I didn’t want to deliver a huge baby, but mostly I wanted to give myself time to recover before moving the next week.
Landon’s Mom, Steve, Val, and Kiley wanted to be to Capri’s birthday party and drove to Arizona on Saturday and stayed with us . Our one bedroom apartment gets cozy, but it was like a big sleepover. We went swimming in the warm Arizona weather, had yummy dinners, and enjoyed visiting. I was almost embarrassed to go to church on Sunday because I got a substitute for my Relief Society lesson and told everyone the week before that I was planning on having a baby and wouldn’t be there. After church Landon and I went on a walk with Val and Kiley. I wanted to do what I could to make the baby drop. My Mom had “floating babies” and ended up having C-sections because her babies never dropped, even in active labor. Dr. Bass told me the baby was still pretty high at my previous appointment and it made me worry that I would be in the same situation as my Mom. I had so much energy on our walk that I told Landon I felt like running, and next thing you know…. I was jogging down the street. I got some strange looks from the cars passing by, I guess you don’t see a full term pregnant women running everyday with a huge smile on her face.
Landon made a delicious Sunday dinner. We were about to sit down to pot roast, potatoes, and rolls when I got a phone call from the hospital telling me they had a bed ready and asked me to come to the hospital in an hour. I didn’t think they would call me to come in earlier than scheduled. I got so nervous that I’m pretty sure I didn’t tell the nurse on the other end of the phone goodbye. I quickly gathered my things, took a shower (cried a few nervous tears in the shower) and tried to relax enough to enjoy dinner. I had been so composed about having a baby, hosting family, last minute plans to move and find an apartment, that my sudden nervousness surprised myself. I feel like I've been handling the unknown rather well for disliking it so much. All along I wanted someone to tell me “it was time” to have a baby; so what happens when someone tells me “it is time?” I cry. We got to the hospital and checked in, I imagined walking in with intense labor pains about to deliver a baby any second like the movies, but instead I felt like I was checking into a hotel, I was much calmer at this point. Before the nurse showed us to our room, she had me step on the scale to check my weight. For the first time I was pleased with my 31lb weight gain; at least I knew that the weight gain would stop there! Actually, I think I've done pretty well with the weight gain and body changes, though it was overwhelming at first. I gained weight quickly in the beginning and was worried that pace would continue, but once I realized how blessed I was to create life and carry a child, it didn’t matter anymore. I was willing to gain 80lbs just to have a healthy happy baby. Funny enough, once I accepted the body changing process, I enjoyed my pregnant belly much more and the weight gain slowed down.
Landon and I made ourselves as comfortable as we could in our room. We were both kind of quiet, not knowing what to expect. Landon sat by me and held my hand for a little while and then we decided we might as well try and get some sleep.
The hospital where I delivered was a baby factory, I was one of the first of 19 deliveries that day. We later learned that the majority of deliveries at that hospital are induced labors. The nurses call these 9-5 babies, and they are certainly most convenient for the doctors. It’s common to have the patient to come in at midnight, slowly labor through the night, the doctor breaks the patient’s water before he heads into the office at nine the next morning, and hopes to catch a baby before he leaves the office at five. I followed the routine to some extent, but I was told I delivered much quicker than most inductions.
Even though I arrived at the hospital Sunday evening, I wasn’t started on Pitocin until midnight. My doctor stopped in to see me at 2am after attending to an emergency and decided to break my water. I was a little uneasy because I had seen the giant crochet cook they use to do it with and was told by a friend that it was painful. My body was even shaking, but I didn’t feel a thing… except water. My doctor told me that I should consider getting an epidural at that point since my contractions would get much stronger with my water being broken. I was hooked up to a monitor that read the intensity of my contractions; the nurse showed me that my contractions would be reaching between the top two lines when I was in active labor and pushing. My contractions were that strong within an hour. She came in a few times to check on me and see if I wanted an epidural yet because they were so strong. I was talking through the contractions just fine and feeling great. A little while later the anesthesiologist knocked on the door to ask if I wanted my epidural. I thought, “these contractions must be more intense than I think they are, why does everyone else think I need an epidural?” The anesthesiologist has a 24 hour shift and sleeps in the hospital, she was up already giving another patient an epidural so I’m sure she probably just wanted to do mine while she was awake. I agreed, and like having my water broken, I was a little uneasy about the process, but pleasantly surprised that it was nothing like I expected. It felt like a bee sting to say the least. With the epidural I could still feel when I was having a contraction and I was able to move my legs around, which was exactly what I hoped for. I wanted to feel my body, but not the pain. I loved having an epidural, I was relaxed enough to sleep. I was actually asleep when three nurses rushed into my room, turned the lights on, rolled me over, and gave me a shot in the arm before I could ask what was going on. They talked calm, but moved like something was wrong. I guess my laboring so quickly put the baby in stress and her heart rate dropped drastically. The nurses gave me the shot to stop my labor and took me off the Pitocin IV drip. Even though I recognized the seriousness of the situation, I felt calm, like everything would be just fine. I was given oxygen and labored on my own the rest of the night until my doctor came in at about 8:30am. He checked me out and told me I’d have a baby by lunchtime.
Landon and I just waited together. We opened the blinds and watched the most beautiful Arizona sunrise… without saying; we knew we wanted to remember that sunrise as the beginning of a very special day. Four years ago I barely knew Landon. Three years ago I married him knowing he would make a wonderful husband and father. That day he was going to become a father and I couldn’t believe we were at that point; I wanted to freeze time for a second. A love story that only began four years ago, now welcoming a baby and continuing into forever.
My delivery nurses were wonderful, but I think every mom to be says that. It just feels so nice when someone takes care of you before you even know what you need. They do some unpleasant jobs, but I’m sure it’s all worth it when they get to be a part of so many babies entering the world. My nurse checked me about 10am and told me I was ready to have a baby. She called Doctor Bass and it seemed like he took a long time to get there. He came in chatting, sat on the chair to change his shoes, put on his gown, etc. I thought there was supposed to be hustle and bustle all around when delivering a baby, but every one was taking their time and calm as could be. I only pushed through three contractions before Capri entered the world. I was afraid I wouldn’t know what to do, but your body does, it’s amazing. I am not sure if this is the way to describe what I was feeling when it comes to labor, but it was such a sense of accomplishment. I think I would have enjoyed the process even more if I knew it was going to be much easier than I expected.
Capri didn’t make a peep in her first few moments of life. Her eyes were widely looking around and they told me she was fine. I don’t even remember her crying at all, but I’m sure she did eventually. They laid her on my chest and there was no need for introductions. It was like we knew her all along. We just stared at each other. We loved her.

My 26th Birthday

I look forward to baby updates and my doctor's appointments have been the highlights of the last few weeks. I told my doctor that I was worried that the baby wasn't moving very much at my last appointment. He sent me to have an ultrasound to check the amniotic fluid levels and then did a stress test. Everything was fine, I'm just a paranoid mom already! My doctor said she's probably just running out of room to move around so I'm not feeling her move as much. The ultrasound showed her chubby fist and the folds on her skin. It appears she's putting on the baby fat just fine. She still has huge cheeks like her 3D ultrasound pictures showed at 32 weeks.... the more to kiss! I just can't wait to see her on the outside!
Landon didn't have class on my birthday so we got to spend the entire day together which I loved! We went to Denny's for omelets and got frozen yogurt while basking in the warm Arizona sunshine. Last month I did "14 Days of Valentines" for Landon with a little treat, coupon, and reason I loved him each day. Just simple and sweet like the first day below.
Of coarse he had to one up me and he did "17 Days until your Birthday" countdown starting on Valentine's Day. So I've been opening little presents from him all along! He got me this super cute blazer and iphone case to name a few.
Later that night of my birthday we went to the Phoenix Sun's game with our friends Brian & Lisa and Ryan & Kelsey. At the half our seats were upgraded to row 20. It was a great game, but I think I enjoyed the company just as much. (Below you'll get a glimpse of my 39 week belly, and yes... I still like it when Landon and I match). It was about time we got around to seeing a Suns game, we still have so much more to see and do while we are in Arizona. After the game we had a late night dinner at Applebees. I loved the phone calls and messages I received from family and friends too! It was a wonderful birthday!

A Pregnancy Post... almost nine months of catching up.
Here we are... just a few weeks away from our baby girl joining us. It's about time I start journaling, one day she'll want to know more than I can remember, and for that matter, Landon and I will too. Her current arrival date is March 10, 2012. I have a haunch she'll come a little earlier, but I could just be anxious to meet her.
So my pregnancy in a nutshell has been great. I wouldn't go so far to say "I LOVE being pregnant," and I still don't understand the women that say "they've never felt more beautiful," but I can't say anything negative... how can I while being part of such an incredible process? In the beginning I forgot I was pregnant because I didn't' feel any different. The only pregnancy symptom I experienced was that I was a bit more sensitive and emotional (though Landon might say I was a much more sensitive... poor guy was surely wondering what my problem was, but continued to be patient with me). We found out I was pregnant in Beijing. I always planned on doing something special to tell Landon, but I was so nervous about being in a foreign country and wondered if I could count on the cheap Chinese pregnancy tests to be accurate that I just blurted it out before I even realized what I said. The next day we hiked the Great Wall of China and I kept thinking "is this what pregnancy feels like?" Sticky, hot, tired, hungry. Then I would look around at everyone else and find out they were feeling the same. Over the next month spent in China I would sometimes think I was experiencing a pregnancy symptom and then discover everyone was gagging at the smell of the stinky tofu vendors on the street and the poop in the gutter. My very first doctor's apt was in China. I love that the words on our baby's ultrasound pictures are in Chinese. The doctor gave an estimated due date of March 14th, we will see if the American doctor or the Chinese doctor is right, I hope the American doctor! The ultrasound told us I wasn't as far along as I thought, I guess my body was confused after traveling through so many different time zones and visiting about 15 different countries at that point. I'm not sure why, but the Chinese doctor told me I couldn't eat chocolate, ice cream, or fruit while pregnant... I'm pretty sure about 80% of my diet the last nine months has been chocolate and fruit! The Chinese doctor also said no make up, weird. Any makeup that I put on while in China melted off anyway. I know people have healthy babies all over the world, but I can't imagine having a baby in China. I started to worry about the air quality I was breathing and some of the foods I was eating while we were there and am so grateful for the quality and comforts of the hospital I will be delivering in here in Arizona.

I feel so blessed that I haven't been sick except for the two times I got car sick! I usually don't get car sick, but did once in Thailand in a large van on the way to the Phi Phi islands and the other time driving to Utah from Arizona for Thanksgiving.
I think I really started to show around Thanksgiving time. I haven't taken very many pregnancy photos... I don't love them. Probably because I feel like my whole body looks pregnant and not just my belly. The first stranger to ask if I was pregnant wasn't until January in the grocery store when I was shopping with the little girl I nannied. She made the comment "Wow! You are going to have your kids close together!" I was so happy that someone noticed I was pregnant that I didn't correct her and explain that the grouchy faced Indian girl with me was NOT mine, ha ha! The next time I had someone ask me about being pregnant wasn't until week 35, my favorite week of being pregnant. It seemed like everywhere I went complete strangers wanted to share my excitement for this baby, ask her gender, names, if my husband was excited about having a girl etc. Shoppers would follow me out to my car so I didn't lift anything. People were just so kind and still have been! It is funny how people don't dare to cross the "is she pregnant?" line until the end.
How far along: 37.5 Weeks
Maternity clothes? oh yes! My favorite pair of jeans to wear are actually not maternity though, just two sizes bigger. I think my bum and thighs appreciate the extra room and not just my belly :)
Stretch marks? none yet, and crossing fingers to keep it that way.
Sleep? As long as I have two pillows under my head and Tums by the bedside, I really can't complain.
Best moment this week: Just sitting on the coach with Landon watching her move around.
Miss Anything? Licking cake batter or cookie dough out of the mixing bowl. Raw eggs are probably not that big of a deal compared to the things I ate in China though. I do miss my stomach until she moves around and then I think I'll miss the baby belly when it's gone even more!
Movement: She is active as ever! Sometimes it feels like she is plucking at my ribs like a harp. She is kind of a stinker when it comes to letting Landon feel her, but if we wait long enough she'll say hello.
Food cravings? Sweets (surprise!) I have always loved my candy so I'm not sure that is a pregnancy craving. I have really liked root beer, string cheese, yogurt, and pomegranates as of late.
Anything making you queasy or sick: Not since the smells in China or the car rides that made me feel car sick.
Gender: Girl
Labor Signs?Nope. I think she is pretty cozy in there! No braxton hicks, but I was dilated 1cm at my 36 week apt.
Symptoms? heartburn/acid reflux (I hope the saying about heartburn and lots of hair is true :) The ultrasound tech said she could see hair on the back of her head, but non on the top.... this could be interesting!
Belly Button in or out? out... I hate it!
Wedding rings on or off? On most of the time. Some days in the evenings it gets a little tight. There is some water retention in my face and feet, but not too noticeable.
Happy or Moody most of the time? Happy & EXCITED to say the least!
Looking forward to? her arrival of coarse! Also looking forward to being a stay at home mom and watching Landon become a Dad, he's going to be wonderful!
I think we are all ready to go as far as baby supplies. I went to buy a car seat on craigslist from a sweet couple two months ago and they ended up filling my whole car with baby things before I left. I guess their little girl was a colicky baby so they tried a lot of different things with her, I was the beneficiary of two car seats and three swings which she barely used among many other things! Leisa Aims and her sweet girls threw me a wonderful shower with all of my Arizona cousins and friends. We have been so blessed and our little girl has some cute things that's for sure! We are in a one bedroom apartment, so we haven't purchased a crib or nursery decorations. We'll keep her in a bassinet in our room for now. I'm kind of relieved I don't have to decorate a nursery just yet. So many cute ideas out there it overwhelms me!
Names.... we both love Capri. That's about the only one. I like the old fashion names like Eliza, Elsie, Eleanor, Hazel, Mabel, Leah, and Lydia. Landon just laughs when I say them like I'm joking. We do both like Molly. I guess we'll just have to meet her to know for sure!
